Transition to an Independent Not-for-Profit Organization In 1997, an important milestone in the ESC's history occurred when it became an independent not-for-profit organization. This transition allowed the center to broaden its scope and further pursue its mission of improving the livability of communities. Harnessing Information Technology for Community Planning Centralizing its efforts on community planning, design, and development, the ESC endeavors to utilize information technology as a powerful tool.
