Kensington Campus: A Haven for the Homeless Overview: Kensington Campus stands as a transformative 14-acre therapeutic community aimed at addressing the needs of the local homeless population. Its mission encompasses housing, employment, and rehabilitation to empower individuals and offer a path towards stability. Operated by The People Concern, Kensington provides a comprehensive range of services including case management, wellness programs, medical and mental health care. This innovative development, situated at Avenue I and 32nd Street West in Lancaster, represents the Antelope Valley's largest fully integrated community of its kind. Housing Options: The campus offers both interim housing and permanent supportive housing solutions, ensuring a continuum of care for those experiencing homelessness. With a capacity for 156 interim housing beds and 150 permanent supportive housing apartments, Kensington Campus accommodates the diverse needs of its residents. Currently, 149 individuals have transitioned into their own homes, while over 140 program participants have found temporary shelter within the campus. Eligibility Requirements: Kensington Campus primarily serves adult individuals facing homelessness, focusing on their unique circumstances and challenges. As part of the City's comprehensive strategy to combat homelessness, this community strives to uplift, restore dignity, and provide purpose to those most in need. Application Process: Prospective residents are seamlessly connected to Kensington Campus through the Coordinated Entry System (CES). By engaging with CES, households experiencing homelessness are matched with suitable housing resources tailored to their individual needs. To join the Coordinated Entry System, interested individuals can access the registration portal on the CES Los Angeles website at http://ceslosangeles.weebly.com/. Waiting Lists and Contact Information: It is important to note that many low-income apartments maintain waiting lists, which can sometimes span several years before applicants are contacted for available units. Therefore, it is recommended to submit applications to multiple waiting lists to increase the chances of securing housing. To check for openings or inquire about waiting lists, individuals are encouraged to contact the apartments directly using the provided phone numbers or websites. While most HUD listings do not disclose specific rates, they are typically determined as 30% of the renter's adjustable gross income. It is advisable to reach out to the respective apartments to understand eligibility for income-based rent. By actively engaging with Kensington Campus' comprehensive approach to homeless services, individuals can rebuild their lives, find stability, and carve a new path towards a brighter future.
